I've read
an article about a Swedish organization that conducted a social experiment on
domestic violence. The male actors physically assaulted women while members of
the public were in the lift .One shouted, while pinning the woman to the wall:
“You are not worth anything, I hope you get that! The result of the experiment
even shocked the scientists who conducted the study, because most of the
eyewitnesses ignored the incidents. Only one person from 53 people reacted, but
it was expected that about 50 % would intervene.
In my
opinion, indifference to other people is a fearful social phenomenon. People
don’t pay attention to other’s misfortunes. In a different situation, when
somebody needs help, we stay cool and selfish. But if someone close to us gets
into a similar situation, we become puzzled as to why nobody will help. And we
will accuse of indifference people. But what will we do in such case? Will we
pass by them or help? I think we need to think about it. We are people and we
must stay humane. When I watched the video after I read the article, I was
unpleasantly surprised because of the reactions given from the men. Since the
dawn of time, it is generally agreed that the male sex is stronger than the
female sex. But in the video, the men stayed in the corner and did nothing.
They didn't try to defend the miserable woman from the aggressor. I have
watched a similar social experiment where an actor played a man who was on the
road and began to writhe. A lot of people overpassed the man but of course,
others stopped to help and asked what happened. In conclusion, I want to say
that I support such experiment forces us to think about our behavior and calls
us not to be so indifferent.

ОтветитьУдалитьAnn, you touched upon this problem and I can't help saying anything. Unfortunately, nowadays such behavior is normal. In my opinion, people pass by and don't help because they think that this person is whether homeless or addictive to alcohol so he doesn't deserve any help. Some people may be afraid of getting troubles. They say "Oh, it's not my case, I'm hurry up". As for me, recently I changed my mind about such things. It happened after watching a series where a similar situation was showed, I was shocked by people's indifference and struck to tears. Therefore I decided that I will help homeless or poor people (giving them some money when they are asking), people who seem ill or feel bad. I try to overcome me fear, sometimes my disgust or distrust because the situations may be different and you always ought to stand yourself on other's place.
ОтветитьУдалитьYes, unfortunately, people nowadays are indifferent to somebody else's misfortune . It's a pity because no one can feel secured against it. I believe that if we interview some people on the street, they all will say that they would help to homeless and to people who was caught up. But if it comes to the push they will just pass by. A few years ago I faced with such situation. I was walking on the street with my friend when I saw a man lying on the ground. I must say it was a winter. I was shocked because nobody came to him to inquire about the reasons why he was there. I hesitated but eventually I'd came to him and found out that he had some problems with his heart. I called the ambulance. I hope he is well now.
ОтветитьУдалитьWell, all in all I think people should be more empathic. Who knows what could happen with us tomorrow...
I think that people don't pay attention to other's misfortunes because they think it's not their business. Or somebody else can help but not they because, for example, they don't have enough time. Or maybe they think they will be in trouble if they help, so people are just scary. I have never been in such situations but my mother was. She saw that a boy tried to stole girl's bag and that girl cried. My mother frightened the boy and he run away. Honestly, I would run away if I saw such situation which is described in the article because I'm too small and weak but I could call the police after my running.

ОтветитьУдалитьI find it awful and inappropriate that no one paid attention to such violent scene. It shows the real nature of the crow - silent, watching, wondering what was going on, but unwilling to interfere. But I don't think that it is a common thing that nobody cut off the quarrel. There are people who can't stand the injustice and violence towards woman. It should be provided a set of such experiment in different places of the city and in different time. So the results, I hope, would differ.
ОтветитьУдалитьYes, it's really awful when people so indifferent especially in such situation. Many of people don't have time to help, many think that it isn't their deal and don't want to spend their time etc. Nobody knows what can be with us tomorrow. Sometimes it's even horribly to imagine that it can happen with you and nobody will help you. I think that people should pay more attention on the surrounding world and not to be so indifferent to each other.
ОтветитьУдалитьThe problem is very relevant in our time. Now there are a lot of similar experiences and experiments. The results leave much to be desired. It forces us to think about our behavior, why are we so selfish and proud. After all, if in trouble get someone from our friends and relatives - we immediately rushed to help him. So why can not we help the ordinary man? After all, we are all the same, we are all equal. We can all be in any similar situation. I believe that you can not stay away. If you can help yourself - help - if not - сall someone for help, but in any case don't remain indifferent to the suffering of others.
