It isn't a secret that today a lot of attention is paid to LGBT community and no wonder that the idea of particularized on-line magazine for gays took into Christian Guiltenane head. The magazine is called aTEEN and  already available in the Internet. There are two covers. On the first cover people can see Jaymi Hensley, who became popular after participating on the X Factor. He is engaged to Olly Marmon and planning a wedding for 2015. The alternative cover shows Charlie King, who quit the reality show The Only Way Is Essex last year. Young gays will find a lot of necessary information in aTEEN - about safe sex, advice from This Morning’s Dr Ranj, and pieces by young gay men about relationships, sex and HIV. Also there will be a diary by Charlie King where he will share the ideas about depression in his twenties that he believes was triggered by not being true to himself and discuss stories about his difficulties at school.

The topic of such magazine is too controversial, as all topics that touch LGBT community. It's interesting if the magazine will be recouped. Actually, I suppose that there are too much attention to gays and I wonder why they can't read usual publication for young people or special editions for girls if there will be columns for such subjects. On the other hand it's essential for them to know about HIV or safe sex and they must know that it's not a shame today and people support them and in the case aTEEN is a gift for them. To tell the truth, I would read such publication once just to know about their lives and problems and perhaps it can help to understand better them and their choice. Also the magazine can be useful for gays' parents. All in all, I agree that it wasn't a bad idea to create the magazine but its realization will show the results more accurately.

Questions for groupmates:
1) What do you think about gays and if they need some magazines, in your opinion?
2) Do you want to read such magazine?
3) Do you think that it's essential to found such magazine in Russia?

  2. 1) I am not sure whether they are in need of such magazines, but I can't deny that gays exist during the whole human history. The world and our history is full of examples of extremely prominent gays - those who left behind an enormous contribution to the cultural development of the society, but not in its degradation, as it happens in our time. Tchaikovsky, Freddy Mercury, Elton John etc. they all were gays but none of them boasted of that.
    2) I would read such magazine once because of curiosity.
    3) Yes, why not!) But maybe it would be the clandestine press.

  3. What a surprise that such magazine exists. I keep to the idea that people are free in their choice so I am not against gays. As for me, they can read usual popular magazines and get to know all news and advice about relationships on different forums and chats (specialize in these questions). In my opinion, the main reason why such magazine appeared is to show that gays are not judged by the society. To show that all of us are tolerable people who accept and respect such men’s choice. I am not interested in such magazines so I wouldn't like to read ones. I suppose they won't spread a lot in Russia.

  4. By the way, I hope such magazine wouldn't be just a simple way to once more attract our society attention. So if it exists, it should really contain necessary information. Otherwise it would be a license to print money. And people who would write their thoughts and ideas really should know their onions. They must be sensible to their readers feelings. I suppose it can help to overcome different stereotypes about LGBT community.

  5. I have nothing against gays.People are people. And we all have a right to love who we want to. I really liked what Jason Mraz and his fiancee decided to do about their marriage: "We can't get married until gay marriage is legal and equal...I think giving people the right to marry will be a huge movement in civil rights." I support gay rights, but I don't think I'd enjoy reading such magazines. But they are surely helpful for gay people who have some questions or want to come out but scared. Also I think there should be created some kind of support group blog or smth. And about Russia, I extremely doubt that this kind of magazines could be found here...for obvious reasons.

  6. +1 for previous post.
Theres nothing wrong with being gay and it is not bad
They don't need to ask forgiveness from god, God loves everyone straight or gay.
About magazines - I think it's normal thing, but I don't want to read them. I suppose they are censored in Russia and not popular.

  8. I think that you can't judge people just because of the fact that he was not of the sexual orientation. We are all human. And once we have the right to decide whom we love - and no laws, no restrictions should not destroy this way. Love save the world, not bans. Against gays, as well as against lesbians I have nothing. Their lives are their choice.
About the magazine I can say that it was said in the article that the magazine would be good for parents of gays that they were aware of why their children anyway behave. That parents understand what they live for and what is important for their children. I have no interest for reading such publications.
